Bertha Muzzy Sinclair or Sinclair-Cowan, née Muzzy (November 15, 1871 – July 23, 1940), best known by her pseudonym B. M. Bower, was an American author who wrote novels, fictional short stories, and screenplaysabout the American Old West. Her works, featuring cowboys and cows of the Flying U Ranch in Montana, reflected "an interest in ranch life, the use of working cowboys as main characters (even in romantic plots), the occasional appearance of eastern types for the sake of contrast, a sense of western geography as simultaneously harsh and grand, and a good deal of factual attention to such matters as cattle branding and bronc busting. She was married three times to Clayton Bower in 1890, to Bertrand William Sinclair (also a Western author) in 1905, and to Robert Elsworth Cowan in 1921. However, she chose to publish under the name Bower.

This book was more about relationships than anything else. It is not your typical "Western" novel. Instead it's an interesting blend of love, marriage, egos, regrets, in-laws, partners and adventure - all while trying to earn a living during the early 1920's American west. There were some impossible coincidences transpiring here and there that were, I guess, necessary for the story to unwind. A little action, a little fun, some twists, surprizes and a lot of believable human relations and feelings between the small cast of characters - all told with an interesting flair and style. A very talented author, yes.

Amazing book - lovely pictures.....
cabins, cottages, I'd be happy to live in a dog house that looked like this - Fantastic!
Cabin Fever has been an inspiration. I have owned this book for several years, and never tire of paging through it to enjoy its lovely photos of both vintage cabins in the Adirondacks or national parks, or newer homes styled with timeless panache. As I have furnished my own cabin in the woods, it has been a handy guide and I am happy to say that whomever visits my home now remarks on its warmth and charm. "Did you use a decorator?" they ask. Nope--didn't need one because I own Cabin Fever.
Different from what I expected. Good western with good character development. The pace was slow and much of it bogged down a bit, but some of that was to develop the character personalities. I would probably have given it three stars until it came together at the end with a totally unexpected conclusion.
I'd recommend it.
This is not a normal book that one simple reads. This book is a long, slow dance to be savored. It's music carries you along until the end and leaves you with its tune still lingering in your heart. This is a must read!
This was a great read! B.M Bower provides wonderful and detailed character descriptions; but then sends them away and we don't read about them for several chapters. When they return they connect with other characters and more is revealed about them. I was disappointed with the ending. I felt that Bower didn't really know where, when or how the book was going to be finished. She gives us a "well made ending" that could be used for many other novels. Don't let the ending deter you from reading it. Its perfect for spending the day by the fire and are suffering from a case of cabin fever.
Rachel Carley's book "Cabin Fever" is definitely one of the best on the subject of "rustic" cabins. But what you have here is not backwoods rustic, but beautiful "lodge" rustic. Gathering images and history from the beginnings of rustic design to contemporary, this book brings you the best of cabin style.
I am interested in the architecture and decor of the great park lodges and how it can be utilized in any home. "Cabin Fever" fits the bill perfectly. It has plenty of pictures and a descriptive text. You will find lots of design ideas and inspiration in this book. There is even a guide list of where to find items for those searching for cabin decor of their own.
