This was an interesting little book that twisted and turned in an unexpected way. I always love a story that tells the story that is not usually told. And, of course, a good lesson is always helpful. We need more media out there that encourages us (and kids) to be who we were born to be and fully embrace that. This book certainly reminds us of that wisdom.
This was a much more thought-provoking book than I'd expected. The Big, Bad Wolf is usually the villain of the stories because he's, well, Big and Bad. But what if, by condemning parts of ourselves that other people tell us are wrong, we're actually cutting off the parts that make us who we are?
Also, the illustrations are adorable. D
As a conscious parent who is actively threading in lessons of empowerment, self esteem and self-love for her young children, I am grateful to see this new book on the market!
I felt this book really captured what it means to truly be yourself and be proud of who you are. My 7 year old was able to have an honest conversation with me about her feelings. She identified with some of the challenges the wolf experienced when he didn't know himself and was able to communicate how she can be happy with who she is.
As a parent and someone who knows that there are so many kids of all ages out there who feel they don't fit in, I'm so glad that Alex wrote and published this book. It has lots of potential "talking points," I love that kids can colour it (also a meditative process) and that there's lots of room to add thoughts, speech bubbles and pictures. I also like that it models how to consider other alternatives to one version of the story. Plus it introduces kids to yoga!!
What a delightful story -- for kids and adults alike. This book looks at the wolf for who he always was, and helps him to believe in his own strengths, instead of accepting the labels others have placed upon him. I can't wait to share this book with my nieces and nephews! And the coloring pages are fun!
